In 2000, the French air quality monitoring associations (AASQA) created the Atmo France Federation to represent them at national level and share expertise and resources.
An association governed by the French law of 1901, Atmo France pursues an objective of general interest: to contribute, alongside other national players, to providing France with a system for monitoring air quality and evaluating actions to improve it.
It federates a network of 18 AASQAs (1 for each administrative region in mainland France and overseas) and 1 Air Quality Monitoring Association (ASQA) in New Caledonia. In view of New Caledonia's special political status, the LAURE law and the entire body of metropolitan regulations on air quality do not apply there.
