The French Villes-Santé network and the City of Nice are organizing a symposium entitled "Health and climate change: combining mitigation, adaptation and health prevention" on June 13, 14 and 15, 2023 in Nice.
The aim of the event is to raise the challenges and levers for cities and intermunicipalities to take action at local level, at the crossroads of the causes and consequences of climate change and public health issues, in a socio-ecosystemic approach.
The policies of towns and cities aimed at mitigating climate change often have co-benefits for health, and vice-versa: improved air quality, increased physical activity through active mobility, healthy and sustainable eating, etc. These are just a few examples. They can therefore benefit from drawing on a dual "health" and "environment" rationale, mobilizing their knowledge and skills in these two sectors, and federating all the players concerned, including local residents, to strengthen both their actions to combat and adapt to climate change, and their actions to address major contemporary public health issues (diet, physical activity, mental health, etc.) and protect the population from extreme events and health risks linked to climate change.
