SPSE
The Service parisien de santé environnementale (SPSE) is the result of the merger of the former Bureau de la santé environnementale et de l'hygiène (environmental health and hygiene office) and all the structures previously attached to it (Laboratoire d'hygiène de la ville de Paris - LHVP, Laboratoire d'étude des particules inhalées - LEPI, Service municipal d'actions de salubrité et d'hygiène - SMASH, cohorte PARIS).
This name change goes hand in hand with a reinforcement of the City's environmental health expertise, designed to support the implementation of the Paris Environmental Health Plan. The aim is to introduce new methods and programs for analyzing pollutants (particularly endocrine disruptors and nanoparticles), as well as to develop new functions not directly related to laboratory activities (health impact assessment, health observation, health and environmental awareness campaigns, etc.).
The SPSE comprises three laboratories:
- The Chemical Pollutants Laboratory deals with all issues relating to chemical pollutants in different environments: outdoor air (with the exception of monitoring background levels of air pollution, entrusted to AIRPARIF) and indoor air, soil, materials and food.
- The microorganisms and allergens laboratory deals with all questions relating to microscopic biological contaminants (bacteria, including legionellosis, viruses, parasites, molds, bacterial endotoxins, pollens, here too in different environments including indoor air.
- The Asbestos, Fibers, Particles Laboratory is in charge of researching, identifying and quantifying natural (especially asbestos) and artificial fibers and non-fibrous particles, including nanoparticles, in the environment (air, materials), as well as biomarkers of these elements in biological samples.
